On December 11, 2019, the Indian Parliament approved the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. It modified the Citizenship Act 1955 to provide a road to Indian citizenship to the persecuted religious minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, or Christians who arrived in India before December 2014.
